Changing the face of the TCAT bus system
The bus shelter project is working on developing a more comfortable and safe environment for bus passengers in Ithaca. There are three teams in this project: the design, technology, and logistics teams. The synergies between the three teams have created an initial ideation phase based on the research conducted in the Fall 2016 semester, after talking to travelers in Tompkins county that have experienced issues with the current state of the TCAT system. The data that was collected has allowed for intuitive design decisions, many of which have been addressed and incorporated into the first prototype shelter created by members of the Spring 2017 team.
The design incorporated physical changes to the structure of the shelter to accompany design choices that would create an environment of safety and easy usability. Additionally, many concepts such as improved information, digital content, map redesigns, seating alterations, and clear signage are all features that have been added onto the design and work to create system-wide changes.
