In collaboration with United World Schools (UWS) and Diyalo Foundation, CUSD is improving the architectural design of primary schools to create a sustainable and user friendly environment for education. We will examine the local community, culture, and resources, to fulfill the needs of local students, providing them equal opportunities for education.
Sustainable Education is a team within Cornell University Sustainable Design focused on projects related to global education. Starting in 2009 with Schoolhouse South Africa, Sustainable Education has worked in South Africa, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Ghana. The aim of SE is to utilize a human-centered design process to work with stakeholders, primarily non-profit organizations, to consult on architectural design, sustainability analysis, engineering, and branding. Sustainable Education partners with Cornell University Systems Engineering and TetraTech, Inc.
This project is currently in its research and development phase. The primary school will be designed by undergraduate and graduate students at Cornell, and implemented by United World Schools in Sankhuwasaba, Nepal.
